Baby Hughs medical expenses

Recently our beloved Hugh, who has been with us for a total of 49 days, has been diagnosed with Biliary Atresia. This is a rare condition affecting 1 in 15,000 babies and can be life threatening.

Hugh has undergone one surgery already which went for a total of 7 hours. This required him to be in the ICU on a ventilator for 4 of his 49 days.

Biliary Atresia affects his liver which may result in Hugh (66% chance) requiring a transplant. The doctors have said that Hugh's liver was quite damaged so this percentage may be higher. The only place that is able to do these transplants is in Melbourne or Sydney.

As you may be aware, Hugh's immediate family reside in the countryside so living expenses and inability to work during this time requires money. It's a 350km round trip to and from the hospital and there are many visits yet to be taken. This isn't taking into account the 1800km return trip to Melbourne.
