Baby Jett’s Journey
Donation protected
Jett Alston Reeves is the precious 7month old baby boy of Luke and Caroline Reeves. Baby Jett suffers from Caudal Regression and VACTERL. At the beginning of Caroline’s pregnancy with Jett, she found out that she was pregnant with twins. Unfortunately one baby didn’t make it. They gave Jett a 50/50 chance of survival past the first trimester. Jett grew and made it past the first trimester with no issues. At the 20 week anatomy scan, Luke and Caroline were referred to a MFM doctor because Jett had a single vessel umbilical cord. At this appointment, they were told that Jett had numerous life threatening diagnoses. They were given the option to have an abortion or move forward knowing that their baby may not survive long after birth. If he did survive, he would be non-ambulatory from the waist down and have many medical issues. Fast forward to Jett’s birth— an absolutely beautiful baby boy stayed 5 days in the NICU and was sent home. However, he was diagnosed with Caudal Regression, VACTERL, hip dysplasia, clubbed feet, and hearing loss. In January of 2021, Jett overcame a successful Open Heart Surgery. Jett has gone through multiple hospital stays for different issues and is currently going through the casting process for clubbed feet. It was recently suggested that Jett have a complete Urostomy and Colostomy placed to avoid any future complications.
Luke and Caroline made the decision to travel to Boston Children’s Hospital to get a 2nd opinion before moving forward with a urostomy and colostomy surgery that would change Jett’s way of life forever. Based on their opinion, they made the decision to continue care with Boston for certain medical needs for Jett. This includes different procedures to avoid having to place a urostomy and colostomy at this time. They will be traveling back and forth to Boston for several appointments to make sure Jett has the best medical care possible.
I ask that you would first and foremost pray for Jett and his precious family. Many prayers have been prayed over this sweet baby and God hears them. He has answered so many, and we can’t wait to see how God uses Jett in a mighty way! Second, donate to this family if you can. Traveling back and forth to Boston along with medical expenses will be costly for this family that will stop at nothing to ensure Jett gets the best care possible. Your kind and giving hearts can take part in helping to relieve some of the financial burden on this family. So please, give if you can!
UPDATE: Sweet boy had an appointment at MUSC and Jett is now having some trouble with his kidney function. At this point, prayers are needed specifically for this, and for decisions on what treatment plan will be best for Jett! Luke and Caroline are praying for guidance in this situation, as they are unsure if Jett will be able to go without the colostomy at this point because of the internal pressure being put on his kidneys, so they are monitoring for a month. Whether Jett ends up at MUSC or Boston, we are praying for God to guide the doctors in each situation that arises! And thank you all for you continued prayers and donations!
