Baby Kaden's Medical Expenses

On Friday, October 5, 2018 our sweet baby boy Kaden Charles Blackshear was born 5 weeks premature, weighing just 3lbs 10oz. For the first two weeks of his life, Kaden spent his days at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), focusing on feeding on his own, maintaining his body temperature, and gaining enough weight to come home. Other than the challenges that come with being small, Kaden was a relatively healthy baby.
On Sunday, October 21, we finally brought our baby home! However, over the next day we realized that something wasn’t right. Kaden had become swollen and very agitated, crying more than normal and losing his appetite. On Tuesday, October 23, we took Kaden to his first Doctor’s appointment, where it was determined that he needed emergency surgery to address a hernia with other associated complications. Due to his size, Kaden was rushed to the Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, which is 2.5 hours away from our home in Tallahassee. Although he successfully pulled through surgery, Kaden faced a few additional unforeseen complications and still has a long road to recovery. It’s estimated that he will be at the Wolfson NICU for at least a month. From the day of his birth until now, Kaden has only been out of the hospital for a day and a half.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 to assist with Kaden’s medical bills for surgery and NICU stays in two different hospitals. In addition, we are incurring daily food, lodging, and associated travel costs. Chris is also traveling back and forth between Tallahassee and Jacksonville so that he can support our son while he continues to work. The funds raised would assist with these expenses, as well.
Any monetary assistance, no matter the amount, is truly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. We just want to be able to support our baby boy so that he can have the care and love he needs to heal and come home.
