Baby KJ Medical Expenses

Dear Donor,

We are Kasinda & Kevin, the proud parents of a precious baby boy - our son baby KJ. We reside in the Cayman Islands but are seeking medical treatment for baby KJ in the United States over the next few months and coming years. Please take a few moments to read his story below:

KJ was born at 37.1 weeks via emergency cesarean. When doctors realized that he has a cleft palate, KJ’s family was immediately referred and airlifted to the Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, FL for the proper diagnosis and treatment. He underwent numerous tests upon his arrival, and it was confirmed that baby KJ has the same rare genetic condition that his mother was born with, which required countless surgeries and hospital visits during her childhood.

Doctors tried various feeding methods for baby KJ until it was decided that he should get a gastronomy tube inserted for feeding. This surgery and recovery resulted in KJ and his parents being overseas for over four (4) months. During his time in the hospital, baby KJ was also diagnosed with mild to severe hearing loss and now has to wear hearing aids. He will also be required to wear glasses. The stress of the situation delayed the healing process for KJ’s mother, and she was also admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery, further increasing the already surmounting medical expenses. Thankfully, baby KJ’s family was supported financially by a small group of family and friends with as much as they could afford and line of credit. However, the remainder of costs for KJ’s first surgery and ongoing medical care will require loans, additional support and hopefully your kind donations.

KJ will be undergoing reconstructive surgery in December 2023 for the cleft palate. The purpose of the fundraising will assist the family with expenses not covered by their insurance, such as accommodation, travel, food, transportation, baby essentials, medical supplies, insurance copay for 2024, etc. The family is expected to be overseas for four to eight (4-8) weeks. The funds will also aid in the necessary post-surgery care.
