Baby Luna Cull

Baby Luna Cull was born in Whitehorse, Yukon on May 25, 2022. She is the daughter of Dwayne and Tatiana Cull of Faro, Yukon and granddaughter of Chris and Roxine Cull. The Cull family came to the Yukon in 1995 after their family moved from Fogo Island, Newfoundland to start a new chapter in their life.

 

Dwayne and Tatiana met in Medellin, Colombia, while travelling in 2015. They fell in love and got married in 2018. They were finally reunited in Canada in 2021. They were very excited to find out they were expecting a baby in June 2022.

 

Tatiana had a very healthy pregnancy until her last trimester, when she developed preeclampsia. This causes high blood pressure and can lead to multiple organ failure. It can be fatal for mother and baby. Doctors determined that Luna would need to be born 3 weeks early to save them both.

 

After the arrival of their beautiful little girl, Luna began to show signs that she was very sick. Tatiana and Luna were flown to BC Children’s Hospital the next day when it was clear that Luna had a serious infection with a cause that still remains a mystery. At the time, they didn't expect Luna to survive but she is a little fighter and held on. On Sunday, May 29th, baby Luna had emergency surgery to remove over 90% of her colon due to severe deterioration, which was making her body septic. As of right now, Luna is in stable condition but has a stoma and a PICC line which requires constant monitoring and a significant amount of care by her amazing health care professionals. Luna's mom and dad were told she could be in the hospital for up to 6 months as many unforeseen health issues could arise. What should be one of the happiest times in their lives is now filled with constant worry and stress. Her doctors hope to reconnect her little belly in 1-2 years and she is expected to live a healthy life however, she will likely need multiple surgeries going forward. During this difficult time for the Cull family, we want nothing more than to keep this family together.

 

If anyone knows Dwayne, he's been a dear friend to many. He and his family have hearts of gold and would do anything to help anyone in need. We have started this GoFundMe to show our love and support to help Dwayne and Tatiana stay together at the hospital in Vancouver while baby Luna recovers.
