Let's Help Baby Mason Cook
Donation protected
This is sweet, little Mason Cook.
Mason is seven weeks old. At a time when new parents should be soaking in the joy of their little one, Mason’s mom and dad, Alyssa and Brady, have been faced with the unthinkable. Mason has been diagnosed with Bilateral Retinoblastoma and has just had his left eye removed. He is going to receive chemotherapy to hopefully save the vision in his right eye.
Medical bills will be high and the future medical needs of Mason need to be considered. Alyssa and Brady are not the type to ask for help, so we have decided to set up this page to provide Mason and his family the assistance they will require moving forward.
Alyssa and Brady are no strangers to trauma and pain.
Alyssa has been put through the ‘proverbial' wringer since day one. She was raised by her maternal grandmother after her mom passed away from breast cancer, when Alyssa was only nine years old, leaving Alyssa to pick up the pieces of a broken family. Motherhood has galvanized her commitment to do everything she can to make a positive difference in the world: by raising a child to be resilient in the face of adversity.
Brady’s brother Matt passed from osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer in 2010. The Cook family worked tirelessly to start the Matt Cook Foundation that assists young adults affected with cancer that are 18 to 25 years of age, making sure that their stay at the Cross Cancer Institute is as comfortable as it can be. Today, through the generosity of many, the Foundation continues to provide for young adult cancer patients.
We have excellent cancer care in Alberta, but Mason’s cancer is rare and primary treatment is provided at the SickKids Hospital in Toronto. Brady, Alyssa and Mason have travelled to Toronto to get care and treatment for Mason. This is, of course, further complicated by a global pandemic and the challenges and costs with travelling for medical care for Mason.
Alyssa and Brady have both given much to their community. Now it’s our turn to help them.
You can imagine what a scary time this is for this young family. They should be celebrating milestones and not worrying about additional, unexpected expenses. Please help us support Alyssa and Brady so they can focus on Mason’s health and not be worried about financial burdens.
Your donation will fund Mason’s medical bills not covered by insurance; future medical needs for Mason and costs associated with traveling to Toronto for medical care and treatment. Your donation is greatly appreciated and the family is extremely grateful for your kindness.
