Baby Maya Lee
Donation protected
Hello everyone, we would like to introduce you to Maya Elisabeth Lee. Everyone who knows Melodee, Ryan and Nora knows how excited they were to welcome baby Maya into their family. Melodee had an uncomplicated pregnancy, other than a slightly abnormal finding on a routine ultrasound, followed by a fetal ultrasound, that showed a slightly enlarged right side of Maya’s heart. Because of this, she was delivered at St. Joe’s in case she would need extra assistance from the neonatal team. None of her doctors anticipated the extent of assistance she would actually require after birth.
Maya was born on Tuesday, June 26 at 8:18am. Immediately after delivery, she was unable to keep her oxygen saturation up and was taken to the Neonatal ICU. She was placed on a ventilator and started on medication to relax her pulmonary arteries. Her heart function was severely depressed, so she was transferred from St. Joe’s to Children’s Hospital via Flight for Life.
Over the past three days in the Children’s Cardiac ICU, Maya’s heart function has slowly improved and they are starting to take her off the medications that have been helping her heart pump. They believe she has severe pulmonary hypertension, which led to the tumultuous events after delivery.
We want to thank each and every one of you for your love, support, and kind words. Mel and Ry are going through the unimaginable and this is one way you can help them. It doesn’t have to be much, even skipping your coffee run and donating it to them would help immensely.
We will keep you updated with our little Maya the Fighta, thanks again to all of you!
