Baby Owen vs The Kidney Monsters

My name is Owen Robert Cookson and I was born March 22 2017 in Bangor Maine. When I was two days old I got to fly on a private jet all the way to Boston! My dad and mom call me a superhero because I have to fight kidney monsters every day but I'm strong and I know I will win! I was born with severe hydronephrosis which makes it so I am not able to pee on my own. All of my fluid backs up into my kidneys and makes them really swollen and not work right. Those are the kidney monsters. I am in the Boston Children's Hospital fighting them and with the help of my wonderful doctors they say we can beat them. I have to have surgery Monday to bring my kidney tubes to my skin so they will drain into my diaper. Mom and dad say it will be different for me because I will pee from holes in my sides and not like normal people but that's ok. It will only be that way for 2 years and then I will have surgery to make it so I pee normally! That will fix one problem but I still have those mean kidney monsters inside me. They really hurt my kidneys and they will never work correctly so I will have to come to Boston a lot so the doctors can help fix me. They say I will have to keep coming for the rest of my life and someday they might give me a new kidney if the monsters get too bad but I am strong and no matter what happens I know my mommy and daddy love me and will help me win. I guess that makes them superheroes too!
I want to raise some money for my mommy and daddy to help them pay for my doctors and everything else that I need. They had to take lots of time off from work to be with me and they will have to bring me to my doctors a lot so I want to help them so they don't worry. Silly mommy and daddy worry all the time now and I think they cry more than I do but we are strong and we will beat those monsters together.
I also want to raise some money for the doctors here at the Boston Children's Hospital. I want to give them a lot of money for research so they can find ways to fix other kid's kidneys without having to give them new ones. Fighting the kidney monsters is really hard work and I don't want other kids to have to go through it. I have learned that kidneys can't fix themselves even if the monsters go away so I want to give the doctors here a lot of money so they can find new magic medicines.
Please help my mommy and daddy and the amazing doctors at Boston Children's Hospital beat those mean kidney monsters. Together we all can be superheroes!
