Baby Pedro needs your help! (Ayuda Recuperación de Pedrito)

Dear friends,

This is 7 month old "Pedrito" (Pedro Pablo Díaz Lopez), the sweet baby brother of Eglin María (7 years old) and Luciana (3 years old). Born in Costa Rica, he has been diagnosed with a very rare and serious type of leukemia called Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML).

At Pedrito's 5-month pediatric check-up, the doctor noticed something unusual in his physical exam and blood tests, which led to an exhaustive medical review with several specialists. To the dismay of his family, the diagnosis is Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia: PTPN22 somatic mutation.

This type of leukemia is rare and aggressive. Its only curative treatment is a bone marrow transplant, and Pedro urgently needs this treatment.

But it's not available in Costa Rica.

His parents and medical team reached out to specialists in multiple countries and by the grace of God, they are now able to treat him at the Clinica Universidad de Navarra (CUN), in Pamplona, Spain. The CUN has responded with remarkably swift communication, immediate availability and a more affordable price estimate. It also has a high degree of expertise in treating these types of diseases. They will perform chemotherapy and the bone marrow transplant, which will require a seven-month stay in Spain for Pedrito.

We are asking, with humble hearts, for your help because the expenses are out of reach for this young family and community support is required to pay for the percentage of the treatment that is not covered by health insurance, as well as their long stay in Pamplona.

Since the expenses are variable, if at the end of the treatment there is an excess amount from the donations we receive here (God willing!), it will be donated entirely to the National Children's Hospital of Costa Rica.

Les presentamos a "Pedrito" (Pedro Pablo Díaz Lopez), un bebé de 7 meses, muy dulce y risueño, hermano menor de Eglin María (7 años) y Luciana (3 años), nacido en Costa Rica, de padres Nicaragüenses, quien ha sido diagnosticado con un tipo muy extraño y grave de Leucemia Infantil llamada Leucemia mielomonocítica juvenil.

En la revisión pediátrica de los 5 meses de Pedrito, el doctor percibe una alteración en el examen físico y en los exámenes de sangre, lo cual genera incertidumbre e inician una exhaustiva revisión médica entre varios especialistas.

Pedrito es sometido a varias pruebas y exámenes por el cuerpo médico quienes logran dar con el diagnóstico de Leucemia mielomonocítica juvenil: mutación somática PTPN22.

Este tipo de leucemia está catalogado como una enfermedad rara y agresiva, su único tratamiento curativo es el trasplante de médula, siendo la recomendación médica para Pedrito realizarlo en el extranjero con carácter de urgencia.

Luego de explorar varias opciones en diferentes países, en las que se han presentado limitantes en tiempo de respuesta, disponibilidad y alto costo, se ha decidido que se atienda en la Clínica Universidad de Navarra en Pamplona, España (CUN). La CUN ha sido notablemente ágil en su respuesta, tiene disponibilidad inmediata y un costo más accesible, además tiene un alto nivel de especialización para el tratamiento de una enfermedad de esta naturaleza y le realizarán quimioterapia y el trasplante de médula, debiendo estar en España aproximadamente siete meses.

Hoy recurrimos a su generosidad porque los gastos que se deben asumir están por encima de la capacidad económica de los padres y se requiere apoyo para costear el porcentaje del tratamiento que no está cubierto por el seguro médico y su larga estadía en Pamplona.

De antemano agradecemos su colaboración y oraciones sabiendo que todos podemos marcar la diferencia en la vida de Pedrito y su familia en este momento. ¡Cualquier cantidad con la que puedas contribuir será muy apreciada!

Dado que los gastos son variables, si al finalizar el tratamiento se llegara a contar con un monto excedente de sus contribuciones, será donado íntegramente al Hospital Nacional de Niños de Costa Rica.
