Baby Scarlett’s fight against Heart Failure
Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
I am writing to share some unexpected and difficult news with you. My beautiful granddaughter Scarlett has unexpectedly been admitted to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. For those who don’t know Scarlett, she is the sweetest and most expressive 17 month old I have ever met. She lives up to her red hair and knows what she wants.
Unfortunately, Scarlett has recently been diagnosed with PEDIATRIC RESTRICTIVE CARDIOMYOPATHY - With RCM the heart muscle becomes rigid and unable to relax and fill with blood. The function or squeeze of the heart may be normal, but the relaxation is abnormal. Because of this her heart lower right chamber has become enlarged and lower left chamber is small. This in turn has increased the pressure in her heart and is now effecting other organs such as her lungs and liver.
Restrictive Cardiomyopathy is the least common of the cardiomyopathies there is. There are usually only 1-2 cases per year and less in children her age. This is caused by a genetic disorder (we are currently in the process of trying to figure exactly which disorder) other family members may also have this and not know it.
Scarlett’s dad Zack is the main provider for this family. Scarlett’s mom Kaitlynn is a stay at home mom during the week and works weekends until baby #3 arrives. With almost 3 year old Isaac (who also has medical issues), 17 month old Scarlett and being 22 weeks pregnant, with another baby girl on the way, this news that their beautiful baby girl is in heart failure and that her other children may also have this same condition is very overwhelming and
heartbreaking.
I have begun this fundraiser to help baby Scarlett’s family. So that they can focus on taking care of baby Scarlett and their other children without having financial worries as well. The money raised will go towards
- travel to and from Grande Prairie and Edmonton for medical appointments and hospital stays.
- accommodations and food while in Edmonton.
- Help pay household bills due to missed work
- And any other expenses that might arise.
They are truly for everyone’s prayers and support..
