Baby Sheyenne Hassler’s NICU stay
Donation protected
On the morning of September 11, 2023, Nicole Hassler went into labor being only 33 weeks and 6 days along. A short 7 hours later, Nicole and her husband, David, were hit with the stark reality that they needed to bring their sweet girl into the world 6 weeks early via emergency C-section. Sheyenne Virginia Sue Hassler was born weighing only 4 lbs 11 oz, and was immediately taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Sheyenne is having some difficulties requiring a breathing tube, and a murmur heard in her heart has led to the diagnosis of a defect (Tetralogy of Fallot) resulting in the need for open heart surgery in about 6 months. They’ve also just discovered a constriction in intestine that won’t allow passage to the rest of her digestive tract (Duodenal Atresia). She will be undergoing corrective surgery to her intestines sooner rather than later. After the surgery, she won’t be able to tolerate milk so she will be receiving all her fluids and nutrients via PICC line.
While Nicole is recovering well from delivery, both mom and dad are still processing the unexpected early welcoming of their daughter and the mental/emotional toll this all has come with.
The NICU that Sheyenne is being cared for in is over an hour and a half away (75+ miles) from the Hassler’s home. Along with the financial toll that driving over 150 miles round trip to see their daughter will have on them, Nicole had to begin her maternity leave earlier than expected, and David will also be taking some time off from work to be with his wife and daughter during this difficult time.
The intention of this GoFundMe is to lighten the load of the upcoming medical bills, travel expenses, and to help cover the time off from work David and Nicole are now taking (along with anything else they might need).
The initial goal we have set for this fundraiser is $15,000, but we are hoping and praying to exceed that amount by multiple thousands of dollars. The last thing the Hassler’s need to be worrying about at this time is finances- we want them to be able to give Sheyenne 100% of their attention.
On behalf of the Hassler’s, thank you deeply for your love and support through this time.
