Full details:
Baby Walker Hernandez was born on Tuesday, April 4. As he started growing, a spot on his head began to grow as well. At first, the doctors thought it was cyst or hematoma that was eventually going to have to be drained. However, in late June, they learned the bump was likely not a cyst.
A biopsy was ordered and, regardless of the results, a removal of the tumor was scheduled immediately. Walker had surgery to remove the tumor on Friday, July 7. The surgery went well and they removed all of the tumor they could see. The tumor was completely separate from the skull and came out easily with the hope that all cancerous tissue cells were removed. Unfortunately, the biopsy came back confirming it was Ewing Sarcoma cancer. This means chemo is required in order to get rid of any microscopic cancer. Chemo will start for baby Walker on August 9th. He will likely need 28 weeks of chemo consisting of 7-four week cycles. This will be how each cycle works:
Week 1: 3 days of inpatient or outpatient depending on how he reacts
Week 2: rest
Week 3: 5 days inpatient
Week 4: rest
The Hernandez family will have to shift to part-time work to accommodate Walker’s care schedule which will impact their finances. Please join us in raising monies to help support Ashley, Stephen, Beau (2 years old) and baby Walker on this medical journey. We appreciate any contributions to pour love over this family and help them navigate all the expenses involved.
