Baby William Charles Francis
Donation protected
Monday evening 2 March 2020, Sharzha and Benny's beautiful infant son William Charles Francis became critically ill.
Due to their quick response William was medivac from Belyuen to Darwin RDH ICU.
ICU Doctor's medically assessed William with an unknown heart condition which required a Cardiovascular Specialist. This required William to be stabilised long enough to endure a second Care Flight trip to Melbourne via Broken Hill (diverted to Mildurah due to heavy rain)
To assist William a myriad of procedures were implemented. This included being intubated, an arterial line, cannula in his left arm crisscrossed with dozens of plastic tubes and machines to help keep William alive. This was very confronting, especially when a defibrillator was used several times to shock William's little heart, in an attempt to regulate his heart rhythm. This was done in combination with various medications.
This process was long and tenuous. In the end Doctor's prepared Sharzha and Benny for the worst outcome. Completely distraught Sharzha and Benny remained stoic showing incredible strength and were determined to remain optimistic - the latter was too horrible to contemplate.
Approximately 8.45pm after showing signs of stabilising, Care Flight staff used this window of time and received William into their care and left Darwin about 11pm.
At approximately 6.30am Wednesday 4 March 2020, William was transported by ambulance and was received into the care of Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne from Care Flight NT.
William was in a stable condition and settled well into the Roselle Intensive Care ward for seriously ill children. Associate Professor Andreas Pflaumer – Monash Heart is a consultant pediatriccardiologist with a subspecialty interest in electrophysiology, including an in-depth knowledge of invasive and non-invasive electrophysiology, 3-D mapping systems and remote magnetic navigation and is overseeing William's diagnosis in collaboration with highly competent and professional ICU doctor's and nurses.
In the meantime Benny & Sharzha don't know how long they will be in Melbourne and away from his new job. Like all of us they have bills to pay. Anything our friends and family can spare will ease their troubles at this terrifying time. Thank you all so much.
