Hello,
My name is Lucy Wakefield-Dagen and I am starting this gofundme page in support of my sister and her husband, Allison and Doug Steenberg.
On February 27, Allison gave birth to a beautiful baby boy with a heart condition called Truncus Arteriosis. On March 10 at twelve days old, Beau underwent his first and most invasive open heart surgery. After a 5 hour operation, Beau's walnut sized heart was repaired with a donated valve and immeasurable skill by the team of surgeons.
Since then, his tiny body has been recovering from this overwhelming operation and doctors are working to get his heart to beat regularly. Allison has spent every day with him in the hospital since his birth. Although it is necessary for Allison to be near Beau during this turbulent period in his life, this has been a great hardship to the Steenberg family. The family now has to survive on Doug's income alone. Doug runs a construction company and hasn't been able to take much time off during this ordeal, leaving the family struggling to find childcare, get groceries, and just run a household in general.
On behalf of Allison, Doug, Beau, and their two young daughters; Cecelia and Delilah, I ask you to contribute what you can to help them cover the expenses of living as a family of 5 on a single income with mounting medical bills. Beau's care is a full time job and will continue to be for many months to come. Although Doug and Alli were prepared for having a baby, they were not prepared for Beau to have such a serious and ongoing condition. Financially, the hardest times are still to come. Beau will require 3-5 more open heart surgeries as he grows, and will have life long heart disease.
Many people have asked the family and myself how they can help or show support, and this is a way for loved ones to help. Please do what you can to help this beautiful family as they undergo tremendous hardship. I have quit my job in Colorado and moved home temporarily to help out the family, but monetary contributions will go a long way toward preparing for this uncertain future. I will be eternally grateful for any contribution you can make, as will the Steenbergs.
