Many of you might not know this, but I’ve wanted to be a mother for as long as I can remember. Motherhood was set aside while I pursued other goals. I’ve honestly been very blessed and fortunate to, despite many odds, become the first on both sides of my family to earn a PhD. Words cannot express the amount of gratitude that I have for my mom, my dad and to each of you for providing me with friendship, love, support and mentorship every step of the way. I have never taken that for granted. And, now, as I begin to pursue what is probably the most significant goal of all, I am asking for your support. My current goal is to pursue motherhood through adoption.
As some of you may know, adoption is a huge financial undertaking. When it is all said and done and my baby is home, it will have cost me nearly $40,000. The cost is expensive, and I won’t let that stop me from achieving this goal. I know God always makes a way and I strongly believe that there’s more than one way to achieve a goal.
I have been applying for grants and working on ways to secure funds; and as a start, I want to invite you to help me reach a quarter of my goal, which is $10,000. Having this will allow me to focus on completing the home study, build a trusting relationship with an adoption agency and birth mother and prepare to bring my baby home.
The adoption process is unpredictable and can take as little as 3 months up to about a year and a half. My home study will be complete in early July. At that point, I could receive my baby at any time. I’ve been told by one agency that it’s highly likely that I’ll receive a precious little package by my next birthday in March. I really want to be ready.
Three words that have been on repeat as I move through this process: Perseverance, Faith and Resilience. I know that there will be setbacks and it won’t be easy. But, this is what I’m supposed to do. I am committed. I’ve persevered and drawn upon my faith thus far and plan to remain resilient.
