IVF Cycle #2 for Baby Lang

Here is our story ...

We started trying to concieve naturally in November 2013.  After several months & multiple tests with Rob’s Urologist (Rob is a testicular cancer survivor) we realized our chances of a natural pregnancy was going to be slim to none. We began our journey in researching & preparing for IVF with ICSI. After a 9 month deployment in 2015, we were able to save enough to pay for our first IVF cycle ...

April 26, 2016 : Orientation for IVF cycle

May 26, 2016 : First baseline IVF appointment

May 29, 2016 : Four injections per day began

June 1-7, 2016 : Went in every single morning for bloodwork & ultrasounds

June 9, 2016 : Retrieval Day! 14 eggs retrieved!

June 10, 2016 : Out of the 14, only 9 matured & 4 of those were fertilized

June 14, 2016 : Transfer Day! The original plan was to transfer only 1 embryo. However, we were given an exception & they transferred the top 2 of the 4 fertilized embryo's.

June 23,2016 : Pregnancy tests showed the IVF cycle was successful! A week of blood pregnancy tests came back positive, as well as home pregnancy tests!!! Unbelievable!! A miracle!!!

At this time, Rob was on a "mini deployment". It took everything I had to keep from telling him. Either way it went, I didn’t want it to be over email & while he was away. I wanted it to be in person. So I surprised him when he returned by meeting him at the pier, wearing a shirt that said, “Kiss Me, I’m Pregnant”. He was shocked & overly excited when he saw me & finally read my shirt. I couldn’t have asked for a better response!

So Rob & I were thrilled & excited to be celebrating the life that was growing inside of me. We wanted to tell our family & friends so many times, but knew we also wanted to wait until after our first ultrasound before telling anyone. So we held it together! It was so hard. Many people wait until after the first trimester, but either way, there is a life. And we’re going to celebrate it. No matter what the future holds. We want to live in the now.

July 19, 2016 : Our first ultrasound! I am 7 weeks & 5 days along. At this point, I am hoping to see the baby and some are even lucky to hear a heartbeat. This was the difficult part …
There was no heartbeat. After measuring the baby, it measured behind at 5 weeks & 1 day. The delivery of this news was given in such a way - I was devastated. Dr informed me that this was not what she wanted to see & she was not happy with this ultrasound. She told me that this pregnancy was going to end in miscarriage & there was a slim chance it was going to work out. She suggested I stop the progesterone & allow my body to miscarry naturally. OR if I really wanted, I could continue the progesterone for another week & do a follow-up ultrasound to see if there is growth.
Of course I was going to continue for another week. We had come so far & have done so much to be here. I wasn’t going to just give up if there was a glimmer of hope. We stayed positive & hopeful, as much as we could.

July 27, 2016 : Our follow-up ultrasound.
It was confirmed. We had a “missed miscarriage" around week 5. The embryo quit developing & the heartbeat stopped. My body has continued believing it was pregnant due to the progesterone, so I’ve been experiencing symptoms this whole time. But it's time to accept a miscarriage will take place.

So what happens next?

We are two very strong people. We have been through cancer, deployments, military moves, opening a new business in a new city & so much more ... We can & will get through this. It’s not the end of the road for us. We will be parents one day soon. We are going to continue to try. We are planning on doing another IVF cycle, when we can get the funds together to do so.

We will be forever grateful for those who are able to share or donate. Even the smallest amount of donation or just by sharing our story with your family & friends can help us tremendously. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for your love & support through this journey.

Love, Rob & Angela Lang
