Bachelor Forest Lodge
Donation protected
My name is Andrew Drain.
For the past 33 years I have been confined to a wheelchair after to a MVA at the age of 21. For the last 29 of those years I have been living in the Bachelor State Forest on the banks of the Wallingat River in Wootton on the Mid North Coast of N.S.W Australia 2423.
I HAVE A DREAM
Natsumi and I have been building " Bachelor Forest Lodge " a totally off grid facility for the past 20 years.
This is a place we have created where people with or without disabilities can experience the wonderful Australian bush
Our goal is to offer people with disabilities access to activities they never thought possible.
Some of these activities will include Indigenous cultural knowledge , gardening , music / theater , woodworking along with accessible camping , Kayaking and bush walking / wheeling on the 5 km of accessible trails
We will also be specializing in respite stays.
We also offer a unique venue for weddings , music festivals , corporate events and private functions.
As a disabled man i understand how hard it is to find employment so we would love to see as many of the jobs at the Lodge taken up by people with disabilities creating a unique team where people can feel needed along with creating an income .
Now to the crunch :
For the last 20 years Natsumi and I have funded the building of the Lodge by running A Team Earthmoving a business that required Natsumi to operate an excavator and myself a bulldozer
That was fine until about 3 years ago when I started getting recurrent Urinary tract infections from having to self catheterize 4 times a day in such a dirty environment. I had no choice but to stop this work as it was making me extremely sick.
This has completely stopped all income
We have since sold the bulldozer and pumped the funds into the Bachelor Forest Lodge.
We are now at the point of needing approx $50 k to get the doors open.
As anyone in small business on a rural block will know the banks are just not interested in loaning.
I now find myself here at Go Fund Me trying to finance my passion for the Bachelor Forest Lodge and appeal to all people to please chip in and help us bring this from a dream to reality.
We look forward to sharing the facility once a year with our " Donors Day Weekend ".
This will allow a chance for all donors to come and check out the facility , camp the night all whilst listening to some great music and being pampered by the very people you have helped with your donation..Thank you in advance and we hope to see you as soon as possible. Aiming to be open approximately May June 2021.
