Firefighter Sean Ryan is no stranger to bravery.
As a career and volunteer firefighter for over twenty years, Sean has continually chosen to risk his life to save others. Originally Sean began his career in Virginia in the early 2000s. For the next 20 years, he would, and continues to devote his life to serve central Virginia. As a member of Ruckersville Volunteer Company, he entered as a firefighter and eventually rose to the position of Chief which he held for 3 consecutive years. During this service, he mentored and inspired those around him. Sean continued to share his skill set with the Commonwealth of Virginia as a career FF/Paramedic for Albemarle County Fire Rescue. Where he is currently attached to the training division as a recruit school instructor.
Cancer Sucks.
You don't need anyone to remind you of this evident truth. Yet, when cancer strikes the people in our lives the phrase seems even more appropriate. During a routine physical screening in February, it was discovered that Sean currently has stage III Kidney cancer that has spread to his ureter and possibly bladder. This cancer has been growing for the past three years while Sean has been working as a full-time firefighter. Multiple tests have been, and continue to be done to create a precise plan for surgical removal of the cancerous mass and subsequent chemotherapy.
A Different Fight Ahead.
Sean knows all too well the fight that lays ahead of him. This fight may not be won by handtools and fire hoses but it does include the same mental and physical determination that Sean continuously displays on the fire ground, as well as a supportive community around him. Sean has vigilantly served his community and now we have an opportunity to render support. 100% of the funds raised here will go to offset the medical expenses and missed time Sean accumulates throughout his cancer treatment.
Our thoughts, prayers, and support may provide a small backdrop to display the courage of Sean's journey. It is undeniable that throughout this journey Sean Ryan will continue to be the salty, hard-charging, back step firemen we all wish to be.
Thank you.
