On Saturday night, 17th June 2023, Daniel Scott fell and severely injured his spine which left him immediately paralysed from the waist down. The next day, he had urgent back surgery at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and remained on the ward there for the next 6 days. Following this, Dan was moved to the Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) to begin specialist treatment.
As always, Dan is giving his all with multiple physio sessions each day, occupational therapy and spending extra time in the gym to try and give himself the best recovery possible to get back home with his beautiful family.
Although he has celebrated some great wins already, there is still a long, uncertain road ahead with doctors unable to give any real certainty of what lies ahead. We have made this gofundme to try and help take some of the pressures off Dan and his amazing family during this scary and unforeseen season in their lives. Some of the expenses we are hoping to assist with are the costs of now necessary adjustments to the family home to facilitate Dan's new requirements.
UPDATE
WE ARE GOING ONE STEP FURTHER FOR DAN!!!!
We invite you to be part of the #WalkForDan event, a celebration of Dan's journey and an opportunity to stand united for spinal cord injury awareness and #RUOK. Our Mate Dan has not been okay this year due to his life changing spinal injury.
Let's walk together, sharing Dan's story of resilience, fostering a community of support, and empowering one another to face our challenges with strength and optimism, as well as checking on the person next to you. Every step you take is a step toward a brighter future, reminding us that with the right mindset and a strong support system, we can overcome any obstacle. Dan has faced being unable to work, unable to drive and move through life without aid. There are so many unseen mountains this man must climb; constantly taking a hit at his mental health. Dan's path has been challenging, filled with unseen struggles that he is courageously facing and conquering. Mental strength played a vital role in his incredible recovery, reminding us that what happens within us is just as significant as what the world sees.
One step at a time, not only for our mate, but for all of those who may be suffering and afraid to speak up. Save the date, lace up your shoes, and let's walk for a cause that embodies courage, compassion, and the triumph of the human spirit. Together, we can make a difference. #WalkForDan #RUOK #MentalHealthMatters #Inspiration #communitysupport #ANYTIMEGRIFFIN
