This summer, my wife, Pilar Lombana, organized the first annual Utica Walkathon at F.T. Proctor Park, (a free community event held August 16-23, 2025), with the help of local 10th graders who first attended her Youth Leadership Conference.
Wages for these kids were negotiated through Oneida County for 60 hours of work each, but just days before the event she was told that there were no funds available. Despite this, 10 of the 15 youth stayed on, showing up every day with commitment and energy—running wellness stations, helping families, and keeping the event alive. (See ACANEA on FB)
We don’t think it’s fair for them to go without pay. That’s why we are asking for your help to raise $7,500 to honor their work and dedication.
The Walkathon itself was generously funded by NYS DOJ Project Rise, but its budget did not include youth wages. While we’ve reallocated some project funds, we are still short $7,500 to fully cover wages for these 10 incredible young leaders who showed resilience, dedication, and character.
Why This Matters
These youth are not just running an event—they are building pride, leadership, and transformation in our community. Supporting them ensures they know their service is valued.
Our Goal: $7,500
Every donation—big or small—helps show these youth that their effort matters and that their community stands behind them.

Thank you for supporting Utica’s youth and believing in their leadership!
Together, we are walking toward wellness, unity, and transformation.
