Passage written by Tiffany, Bobby's first cousin.
Bobby and his beautiful wife recently celebrated their first Christmas as parents, and I was anxiously awaiting pictures and a wish list for their son’s first birthday, but instead, he wrote…
“...I have liver cancer.”
And that is why we are here, for Backing Bobby. Nobody expects to get a rare and late-stage diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma, especially when you are feeling healthy, happy, and experiencing all the joys and sleepless nights that accompany the toddler phase of parenthood, and definitely not at the age of 39.
Since the new year started, Bobby has been thrust into a flurry of ultrasounds, MRIs, CT and PET Scans, blood tests, biopsies, and he is now preparing for chemo to start imminently. His countless visits with radiologists, doctors, specialists, oncologists, and surgeons, meaning lots of travel and time away from work for both him and his wife.
By contributing to this gofundme page, you will support Bobby and his loving family to help pay medical bills, travel expenses, and cover unforeseen costs. Funds will also help sustain the family during this long period of lost income, as Bobby’s business has been drastically impacted due to the extreme winter weather and now cancer. We want to ensure Bobby, Alicia and Bennington’s wellbeing and quality of life is preserved as well as possible through the challenging time ahead.
Anyone who knows Bobby, will tell you he is that guy who can warm your heart with his charming smile, who has a great sense of humor, who is always good for a laugh, and there are PLENTY of stories to laugh about. An incredibly hard worker, he loves being outdoors, and will gladly show up if you ever find yourself in need of a cowboy. A career as a self-employed fencing contractor at Felton Fencing suits him perfectly, leaving him time to help friends work cattle, and pursue a gardening and farm stand project with Alicia, before their son was born.
Bobby is also an entertainer at heart, whether that means singing and jammin’ out with fellow musicians in the Bean Broker Coffee House, or fighting bulls in a nearby rodeo (he was a rodeo clown in his younger days). Of all the things Bobby is, what inspires me the most about him is the extent to which he loves and respects his wife, and how I have seen his devotion to her take on a whole new meaning since their bright-eyed son, Bennington, was born this past year.
For me, Bobby has been a loving, humbling, unwavering reminder of the importance of home and our roots. He is one of these rare people who can be straight-forward, down-to-earth, and open-minded, but who is not afraid to ask tough questions or have an unpopular opinion. He is that guy you can stay up all night with, discussing music, sports, the meaning of life, and everything in between, which countless friends, family members, and acquaintances have done. Being Bobby’s cousin has been a true blessing, as he has remained a close friend, regardless of the distance or time that passes. He is simply as authentic and genuine as they come.
The initial goal we set for this Gofundme is to cover the first year of expenses during the initial cancer diagnoses and related costs, mentioned above. If you are interested in other types of contributions, please reach out to Alicia, Bobby, or an immediate family member.
On behalf of Bobby, Alicia, Bennington and the rest of our family, we sincerely appreciate you taking time to visit this page, and for your kindness and generosity, whether monetary, friendship, a warm gesture, a shoulder to cry on, a thoughtful text message or call to check in and let us know you are thinking of us.
Thank you for Backing Bobby during his fight against liver cancer!
