'Backroad Cowgirls' a Digital Series - Pilot

Donation protected
Courtenay DeHoff and Kiah Twisselman both believe deeply in agriculture and its people. They are launching a new digital series dedicated to showing the world the faces of agriculture like never before, and they need your support to make it happen! Their fun, lighthearted storytelling about farming and ranching will help interconnect rural and urban communities, showing the critical role agriculture plays in society beyond the production of food.  The cowgirls think it's time agriculture was spotlighted positively in the mainstream media and they are setting out to make it happen.

The girls will rent a van, fire up their cameras and get their (cowgirl) boots dirty as they travel California exploring the incredibly diverse agriculture industry and the inspiring people who make it unique. They will bring people along for the ride in real-time via social media and launch a vlog-style YouTube series following the trip.

Donations will be used to pay for fuel, food, equipment, van rental, and other necessities to keep the girls moving up and down the road for two weeks. Think Anthony Bourdain's 'Parts Unknown' on a shoestring budget with a few more cows and a little less cursing.

The cowgirls will stop at a diverse group of places to see how agriculture seeps into so many facets of our daily lives. Their hope is that this pilot season in California will launch an ongoing series that takes them state to state, shedding light on the nation's diverse agriculture industry.

Each stop will shine a candid light on the people who make up agriculture. This digital series will focus not only on the facts but also on the faces and stories of the people from almond growers to cowboy activists, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ farmers, cattle ranchers, beekeepers, fishermen, and more who are as diverse as the industries they serve.

The girls feel that the time to tell these stories is now despite rising fuel prices and other challenges they may face as they tackle this project.  All donations help.  The cowgirls believe deeply in telling these stories in an effort to shift the current narrative surrounding agriculture.
