Backyard BBQ Pit first opened its doors in April of 2007 in Durham, NC and has continued to serve the community throughout the years despite hardships of multiple recessions, pandemics, and typical business issues. We've put everything on the line and stood the test of time to keep Backyard at its home and now we need your help!

Who we are

My name is Fabianne Simmons one of the proud owners of Backyard BBQ Pit. Backyard was established after receiving disheartening news that my mother had dementia just months after her losing her life partner, my father. Backyard was a catalyst to keep her spirit alive and that's exactly what it did up until the day she couldn't. We kept our doors open in honor of her and became a well-known household name for residents of Durham and surrounding counties. We are proud to say that for annually for 16 years we have fed our community free of pride and with dedication for our once-a-year customer appreciation day. Our notoriety stretches from East coast to West and in a couple of cases internationally! We have been featured on Yahoo, Yahoo Travel as the #1 BBQ in North Carolina, Southern Living as the best Eastern style BBQ, Man v. Food and much more! But with all the sweetness we've come to a rough patch.

We Need Your Help!

Currently, we are in a very distressed situation. On top of rising food costs and striving to recover from the pandemic, Durham's hole in the wall is starting to cave in. Due to negligence beyond our control, we've had to come out of pocket to make emergency repairs to keep us open and out of the bad press. We've reached an iceberg and need you guys, our community, to help us as our freezer and walk-in cooler is currently not operational and our insurance will not pay for them due to the wear and tear over the years. We are currently using our distributor's cooler and freezer truck which is run off of extremely high diesel fuel. Our equipment is outdated and as a result, we have been struggling to keep the doors open. We were not fortunate to receive any of the grant assistance many restaurants were gifted so we turn to you our family. With your help, we can come back strong and keep Backyard here in Durham where it belongs.
