Badalkumbura Student Enrichment Program
Donation protected
Hello, I am Radhik, a junior in high school, living in Tampa, Florida. This past summer, amid Sri Lanka’s political and economic crisis, I spent time at Nissanka Central College, a large co-ed secondary school in a rural area of Sri Lanka. I learned of the enormous hardships faced by the children and witnessed their joy of learning. I had insightful conversations with the principal, department heads and the two head prefects of the school. I became committed to starting a program to support their education.
Many children are facing dire economic conditions, including food insecurity and the cruel consequences of poverty. Despite these challenges, the children have a great interest in learning and the teachers are highly motivated to support them. Students shared with me their desire to learn computer science and coding, which is not taught in their school and is important for job opportunities.
The Badalkumbura Student Success Program hopes to raise funds to establish scholarships to 10 students (approx. $17/mo. per student) for their needs, including food, and implement a remote computer science teaching project utilizing smart boards (large screen monitors with the capability of accessing online educational material).
It would mean a lot to me, the school and, most importantly the students, if you would consider donating. Any amount will make a difference and your contribution will go towards creating enduring scholarships for these deserving children and the purchase of smart boards for the school.
Please forward this link to those who may have an interest in supporting this work and let me know if you would like to be involved in the program or have any questions.
Thank you!
