Jim D. Fights Lymphoma

Donation protected
My son is a generous, loving young man who loves helping others, playing sports and make people around him laugh. He has served our country in the military and is now a veteran. We hope to see him playing soccer and basketball again very soon, but he can barely walk right now because he is in so much pain. His fight against cancer has just begun.

His Story

In November 2016, my son noticed a swollen lymph node in the groin area that looked like a common cyst. It kept growing, so his doctor recommended doing scans and a biopsy, which came back negative for any type of cancer. He underwent a series of blood tests over the next few months, but nothing suggested the possibility that it could be cancer.

Towards the end of March 2017, his legs began to swell and hurt to the point that he could barely walk. He had a low-grade fever, chills and other influenza-like symptoms, so he thought he had caught a virus.

As time progressed he felt worse, so he visited to the ER and was sent home with a diagnosis of Cellulitis (an infection) and given an antibiotic. The antibiotics did not improve any of his symptoms and he kept getting worse.

He drove to another ER a few days later, and this time he was admitted and given emergency surgery to remove the swollen lymph node. A second biopsy was performed, but this time, the pathology report revealed that he had a rare form of Hodgkin's lymphoma as well as Erythema Nodosum in his lower legs.

Next Steps

He needs to start treatments asap and they are in need of help. He and his wife are going to have to travel a lot for his treatments (they opted for a combination of conventional and integrative medical care), which are only partly covered by his health insurance. The funds collected will be used to for treatments/medical expenses not covered by insurance and traveling expenses.
