Bagged Lunch for Henniker Families
Donation protected
Hello Henniker! I hope you are all well. I am starting an initiative to make and distribute brown bag lunches for Henniker families that depend on school meals to feed their children. As I am writing this, our school district has just announced closure through 4/3.
Three weeks is a very long time for many people in need.
As you may know, 40% of NH families qualify for free or reduced school meals. Without school in session, many kids will face hunger. Many parents will be out of work due to school closures. This will increase food insecurity in our community. I will be offering the bags to any/all Henniker residents in need, not only children.
I have reached out to Henniker businesses to request donations of food and supplies. However, the current situation is already and will continue to negatively impact many of our businesses, so donations may not be feasible at this time.
Funds raised will be used to purchase food items and supplies for bagged lunches and their preparation.
Please contact me directly if you wish to donate supplies or be of service in some way.
In times of crisis, it is imperative that we come together as a community. With swift action and teamwork, I’m confident we can feed anyone who is hungry in the coming days and weeks.
The SAU announced today “We are working on a plan for students who receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. As soon as this plan is finalized and approved by the state, we will provide access details.”
We feel there is no harm in providing additional food for our community in the interim and possibly beyond. Surplus food and money will be donated to the Henniker Food Pantry.
I am hoping to have bagged lunch available starting tomorrow, Monday 3/16. We will be taking all necessary precautions to ensure food is prepared and distributed safely. Stay tuned for more details!
Thanks,
Monica Rico
