Bags to Beds
Don protégé
Bags to Beds is a program that I started with the help of other University of Utah students in October of 2017 to benefit the homeless population of Utah (and eventually others as well). Bags to Beds was started to make a difference in 3 main areas: supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, creating meaningful volunteer opportunities and using sustainable materials to reduce waste and create a product all at once. I was inspired to act when I found out that people in my city were simply not making it through cold nights on the ground, and I knew something had to be done.
The step by step process that makes one bed starts with cutting up used plastic grocery bags, tying the pieces into yarn, and crocheting that yarn into 3’ by 6’ sleeping mats.
Donations will help us collect bags, send volunteers into communities to teach the skills involved in our project, buy supplies, and transport our mats to the population we serve!
I can’t thank you enough for your support!
