The story
On the 12th of March 1923, 5 young men - Dan Shea, John Sugrue, Eugene Dwyer , William Riordan and Michael Courtney, were taken from their cell in Bahaghs Caherciveen by members of the Free State Army, they were driven a short distance to a roadblock that contained a mine.
The prisoners were then told to get out and remove the roadblock, the free state officers then shot them in the legs first, then detonated the mine killing all 5 men.
