Family isn't always Blood.....
Growing up in the Bahamas, the Bowleg’s were not just our neighbors; they were family- and family roots in the Bahamas run DEEP. Born roughly two years apart, these 12 children were our best friends, sisters and brothers. They accepted us like siblings, and it was always an open door policy in their home.
Edna Bowleg, or Neeter as she’s so affectionately called, is the oldest sister. Number 4 in birth order, she was the second Mamma to a long list of kids running in and out of the Bowleg house, us included.
Neeter left Mangrove Key for Freeport many years ago, married a man by the name of Philip Pinder and went on to have children and grandchildren of her own. She and her husband live together with their daughter and son in law, helping to raise their two young grandchildren, ages 8 and 1.
When Hurricane Dorian struck, no one in Grand Bahama expected the level of DEVASTATION that we’re seeing. Staying behind to protect the family home, Philip (age 68) and his son were caught in floodwaters that forced them onto the roof of their house. For many TERRIFYING hours throughout the night, they clung to the roof in a category 5 hurricane, holding on for their lives. When the storm finally blew out, both men had managed to survive with ONLY their lives intact.
Neeter and her family have lost EVERYTHING and NOW it’s our time to HELP “mother” her! If you want to make a donation but aren’t sure where the money’s going to go, this IS your opportunity to DIRECTLY HELP the Bahamas! All money raised will go directly to Neeter’s family, and then to her neighbors in Freeport. This money will be used to get these families back on their feet in their new relocation areas, as well as assist them in REBUILDING their communities. ANY amount is truly appreciated and will be put to good use. NOW is our time to step up and help our Bahamian brothers and sisters who so desperately need us, PLEASE!
In true appreciation for your donation and God bless,
