We are seeking your support for Bailey’s radiation therapy to treat sinonasal cancer. He will only be with us for another 2 months without this life-saving treatment. Bailey is an otherwise healthy Jack Russell Terrier who has just been diagnosed with this uncommon and aggressive form of cancer. Please help us so we can extend that time by 10-fold with our precious baby.
This is our story:
Serendipity brought us together on one perfect, sunny day in November of 2004. I was longing for a loving companion and your first mommy gave up on you. You let out a puppy yelp as I almost walked past you while on my way out of SPCA. Although frightened and so very little, your bright eyes shined through the tiny towel you were wrapped in. I couldn’t help but immediately fall in love with every part of you: your little paws and ears and cute little snout and those puppy lips.
The day I was told you were mine was the best day of my life. Every morning when I open my eyes and see you sweetly curled up by my side, I have to pinch myself to make sure that I am not dreaming.
The worst day of my life happened when your nose started bleeding. The doctor told me the cancer cells are aggressive, that you only have 3 months to live without treatment. My heart was shattered into a million pieces. Now every time I wake up I realize all over again that I am not in a nightmare.
You have been such a good boy and do not deserve to have to go through this. If I could trade each of your cancer cell with healthy ones in my body, I would do so with no hesitation.
The doctor said you are otherwise healthy and the cancer is in the early stages; you are a good candidate for radiation therapy. With treatment, you may have two more birthdays if you respond well. Side effects are expected to be minimal in most cases, and soon you will be back to your old self, the doctor said. Although concerned that the treatment might bring you pain, I looked into your eyes and saw so much life still left in you. I knew at that moment that we have to at least try.
It will be scary and recovery will not be easy. I will give up everything just to have a little more time with you. I cannot imagine waking up without you by my side.
