A massive search and recovery effort is underway in Baker Lake to locate a man who went missing earlier this week while out on a boating trip.
Solomon Tuluialik, 29, was out boating about five kilometres east of the Kivalliq community on Wednesday, July 31, when his boat ran out of fuel and he attempted to swim ashore, the RCMP said on Friday, Aug. 2.
Police do not believe Tulurialik ever reached the shore.
Since Wednesday evening, the Baker Lake search and rescue team has been working with police, hamlet officials and dozens of local volunteers to help locate the missing man by ATV and by boat.
Agnico Eagle Mines has also offered to do an aerial search with one of its helicopters stationed nearby and provided the community with underwater drop cameras to search the lake bottom.
Recovery efforts are ongoing on Aug. 2, RCMP said.
