Empower Bakhitme Village: Transforming Dreams on the Field
Join us in making a remarkable difference in the lives of the resilient Indigenous Assyrian community in Bakhitme.
Bakhitme is a village located 20 km southwest of Nohadra (Duhok), which is home to around 100 Assyrian families, comprising approximately 300-400 individuals. The village faces numerous challenges, including access to water, reliable electricity, and employment opportunities.
The youth of Bakhitme, in an effort to uplift their community, have formed a committee aimed at driving positive change within the village. One of their visions is to foster athleticism, recreation, and bring life back to the village through the game of football (soccer). They established a football club that nurtures the talents of their youth, children, and women. They've formed teams spanning several age groups: 8-12 years old, 13-16 years old, boys aged 17 and above, as well as a women’s team. In total, they have approximately 50 players.
However, Bakhitme’s football stadium, which was built in 2012, is currently in very bad shape. The main issue is the flooring. The turf is very rough, which quickly leads to injuries, and it is not weatherproof, which has led to many holes and rips as well as a large accumulation of dust that rises during gameplay. This discouraging environment hinders effective practice and deters other regional teams from visiting and playing at the stadium. Their ultimate goal is to have the stadium serve as a venue for sports tournaments and festivals, attracting Assyrians from across the region. These events will not only celebrate sportsmanship but will also forge lasting bonds among our community.
We at Etuti and in collaboration with the Bakhitme committee are adamant to repair the stadium. The process includes tearing out the existing flooring. Then cleaning and preparing the ground underneath. And finally, placing the new flooring, including all of its layers to resist the harsh sun and heavy rains as the stadium does not have a roof.
The playing field is 51 x 31 meters (1581 square meters), and we need $15 for every square meter of the new stadium flooring.
Let's come together and empower the passionate young individuals of Bakhitme to reach new heights. Your support goes beyond dollars – it signifies a commitment to nurturing dreams, fostering unity, and creating lasting change. Donate today, and let's kick off a brighter future together for Indigenous Assyrians in the Homeland.
