Balboa High School Prom

(Pictured: Balboa Prom 2023) Hi everyone! We are Balboa High School based in San Francisco, California. Our student body is 96% people of color, and 60% are categorized as economically disadvantaged. Our goal is to give our students the best high school experience possible, but unfortunately, this requires money that we do not have. That is why we are creating this fundraiser to ask for support from our community. Balboa has been improving every day since our founding in 1928, but we still have countless ideas on how we can improve even more. We would like to strengthen our community, which is especially important as our students are impacted by many disparities. Despite being a low-income school, we want to foster a safe and fun space for students to have a high school experience that isn’t limited by financial barriers. This includes accessible dances, field trips, clubs, free resources, and overall initiatives and resources that will allow students to thrive. Another one of our financial concerns right now is prom. Prom is the highlight of many students' years, and they spend all year saving up for it. We want our prom to not only be fun but also affordable and equitable. Prom should not only be for those who can afford expensive tickets. That being said, we need ticket revenues so our school does not incur a debt we cannot afford. For prom last year, we barely broke even. Currently, we are about 20,000 in debt due to the venue costs. The more money we fundraise, the more affordable we can make prom, thereby making it more accessible to everyone. We want our hard-working students to have an end-of-the-year reward after all their hard work during the school year.
