Bali Fundraising

The island of Bali is more peaceful now than it has been in decades but it comes at a terrible price: with COVID 19, most of the local people in Bali have lost their jobs and livelihoods have disappeared. Borders are closed, there are no tourists anymore and tourism represents 80% of Bali’s economy. With an average monthly income of only $ 289 and few social welfare benefits available in Bali, the impact on many of these newly unemployed and their families has been nothing less than devastating. Many don’t have money to buy basic supplies.

Alam Sari (website ) continues to support our staff and their families. We know that the current situation is NOT going to be short term, in fact it could last into next year. Aside from our core staff members, there are many more families depending on Alam Sari, including tour guides, drivers, local suppliers, masseuses, local artists and artisans, and local homestays. In another month reserves will start to run out, and we need some short term survival measures for the foreseeable future to support our families and the villages nearby.

Therefore Alam Sari is appealing to all friends, who have come to love the staff over the past 23 years, for funds to make up weekly/monthly survival grocery kits with items including rice, cooking oil, eggs, noodles, vegetables, toothpaste and soap. The food products would be sourced locally to provide some income in the farming sector.

Weekly cost of emergency supplies for one family:  Approx. US $12.00 (1 CHF=$1)
Monthly cost of emergency supplies for one family:  Approx. US $50.00 (1 CHF=$1)

We would also like to include a water filter per family, sourced from the local company Navaza. Water filters have never been more needed than NOW. In Bali, water from the tap is not drinkable. So either people go and buy bottled water, which is expensive OR they boil water, on wood or gas, which also costs money. Using water filters is 5 times cheaper than boiling water and 30 times cheaper than buying bottled water on a per liter basis.  It also reduces plastic bottle use and people can filter tap water from home, without having to go out to buy water, which is better in present times.

Water Filter: US $20.00 (1 CHF=$1) per household

Where will your money go and what does it buy

Our Goal is to fundraise US $ 10 000 (1 CHF=$1), which represents 3 months of basic supplies for 100 families in Keliki and Yeh Tengah Villages, located either side of our hotel. Alam Sari will help by donating one water filter per family supported. We will distribute the supplies and water filters to the families who need them most.

Management of funds will be done directly through Alam Sari under our supervision, and distribution of the goods will be handled by our Alam Sari staff  following physical distancing and safe hygiene protocols. We will send you pictures and documentation as soon as the supplies have been distributed.

The trust you have placed in our family-owned resort, Alam Sari, over our 23 years of operation is testament enough of the integrity of our hotel to manage the funds well, to ensure that 100% of the donations will directly benefit the staff and local families in need in the surrounding villages.  The Balinese have welcomed people from all over the world. They have basically given up their island for tourism. Now tourism has stopped, it’s time for us to give back to this beautiful people, until normality can return to their island of Bali.
