CBS news former student takes in ballet teacher

Palm Beach Post Extraordinary Lives of Local People

NOW watch movement band for the cause

after 56 years of excellence, the grand dame, Joan Miller, of the Palm Beach Ballet Center, was found warehoused, with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's, in a depressing nursing home facility ward room with five beds, no family, and no advocate. Carissa, a former ballet student of the school took over power of attorney, left her six-figure law firm job, and moved her into her home. Carissa is an active voice and advocate for the Alzheimer's cause and for animals -- always striving to give a voice to those in need. Miss Joan has been living and is still living with Carissa since 2014. While Carissa and Joan have survived each stage of the disease together thus far, the reality is the disease now requires full time care and community services. We appreciate your help and believe she paid it forward and it takes a village to pay it back. We want Miss Joan to have dignity before she takes her final bow. Right now, she’s living in peace and in the present moment. As the disease teaches, the only time that matters is now.

you can also support the cause by wearing a NOW movement band. We are grateful for the support!
