Synopsis:
Four detectives from the Port City Police Department run across the biggest case of their careers when a seemingly simple drug bust uncovers a larger conspiracy involving arms deals, kidnapping, and murder.
Our pilot episode opens with a murder scene. The body of a local police informant is found in an alley bludgeoned to death. After leaving the crime scene our main character, DETECTIVE WILLIAMS, makes a routine stop at a convenience store so that his partner, DETECTIVE CHASE, can grab a quick cup of coffee. Chase unwittingly walks into a robbery in progress. Upon hearing gunshots Williams rushes into the store and finds his partner shot dead.
At the same time, on the other side of town, DETECTIVE DEKKER is working an unauthorized undercover drug sting. He meets two dealers in a dive bar and tries to get them to make a sale. Outside of the bar Dekker quickly realizes that the dealers aren’t offering any product. He’s merely being shaken down for cash. After a close-range shootout takes place in the dealers’ car Dekker is the last man standing. He’s also in hot water with the department for going out on his own.
Several weeks later Williams and Dekker meet each other for the first time at another crime scene. It’s quickly apparent that they are not going to get along. They engage in a scuffle that turns to blows which is recorded by a local television news show, creating an embarrassing public relations situation for the department. As collective punishment the POLICE CAPTAIN reassigns them to a new deep undercover vice squad where they are forced to work as a team under the supervision of two other detectives named BRANDT and MILANI.
Finding themselves in their new office, an aging airplane hangar, all four detectives are saddled with an entirely new and somewhat unfamiliar caseload while struggling with their own personal demons. They are forced to make peace with each other because they now depend on one another to survive the perils inherently involved with police work in a violent city.
Ballistic takes place in a medium-sized coastal city with some big city problems. The port is the perfect inlet for drugs, guns, and other illicit materials. Williams and Dekker will reluctantly team up with Brandt and Milani in an attempt to crack a local drug ring, but what they thought was a hierarchy of small-time dealers turns out to be a much bigger international plot that is being orchestrated by a wealthy, local businessman named CALVIN CARTER.
