Support a Farm and Feed Your Neighbor
COVID-19 means many Baltimore residents are struggling financially. Together, we can share groceries with our neighbors AND support a local Baltimore farm, hard hit without restaurant orders.
Every dollar you give will support farms AND feed your neighbor delicious fresh produce, as well as basic pantry items.
What could be be better?
How Much and Where?
With your support, we'll pack 150 grocery bags a week to be delivered to folks who have communicated their needs in the Greenmount West and Station North neighborhoods.
With a $20 contribution, you'll provide one grocery bag with a week's worth of food. Our goal of $6,000 will provide 150 bags for two weeks!
Where does that Food Come From?
Our farm-fresh produce comes from Crooked Fence Farm, just outside Baltimore City, and Three Part Harmony Farm , outside DC. Both farms grows vegetables organically, and Three Part Harmony is a Black-Owned farm.
Because we are purchasing these vegetables at a reduced rate (each grocery bag will include $10 of farm fresh veggies) we will support this small farm through an unstable time.
Our farm deliveries will begin on May 15, when produce is seasonally available.
Our bags also include a variety of shelf stable items to offer families pantry staples during this crisis.
Who Are We?
We are the Interfaith COVID Task Force, an collaborative of mostly Queer, progressive spiritual leaders in Baltimore. Our leadership comes from Maryland Presbyterian Church (where our food is packed and stored), Dreams and Visions , Lutheran Campus Ministries in Baltimore , North Ave Mission , Divinity Lutheran Church , Light Street Presbyterian , The Center , and Hinenu .
Have you Done this Before?
Yes, our members have been involved in a variety of feeding programs, from Broad Street in Philadelphia to Amazing Grace in Baltimore. Many of our members have been involved in Queer Suppers , an effort to support food-insecure members of the LGBTQ community. We've been distributing groceries in a safe, hygienic manner since COVID-19 hit the US, from running "Bunches of Lunches" on the YNot Lot, and leading a grocery distribution with neighbors in early April. With this funding, we hope to provide regular weekly grocery drops.
Can I volunteer?
Yes! We're looking for steady, focused volunteers for packing and distribution who are under the age of 60 and non-immuocompromised. While we are still working out a regular schedule, we know that we will generally need volunteers weekdays. We also follow a rigorous safety protocol, and ask that all volunteers follow it. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out this form .
