Baltimore Kids in Need of Desk Campaign(BKIND)

Tax deductible
During the Covid-19 pandemic and with schools going virtual next semester, area low income kids desperately need desks and chairs to create dedicated study spaces to enhance and enrich their “at home” virtual learning experience.

To fulfil this need, the Baltimore Furniture Bank has launched its BKIND Campaign (Baltimore Kids in Need of Desks).  Today we have over 350 desks with chairs in our warehouse and continue to look for more; but need your help covering our delivery expenses (truck rental, gas and salaries for delivery staff).   $15 will deliver a desk and chair to a child in need.

One of our amazing Advisory Board members has pledged to match the first $1,000 in donations to this fundraiser! With a waiting list of over 1,200 requested desks, the more money we raise, the more desks we will be able to distribute!

Please help us help local students get a good start with their virtual learning experience.  We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization through our fiscal partner, Fusion Partnerships, and your donation is tax deductible.  No donation is too small!  $15 will deliver a desk and chair to a child in need.

The Baltimore Furniture Bank collects gently used furniture and household goods and distributes them to local low-income families and individuals; thus, helping people maintain dignified housing while diverting furniture and household goods from the waste stream.

The organization is assisting with coronavirus relief, which has created upheaval in so many lives. For example, we supported Out for Justice in furnishing a house for formerly incarcerated women released early due to the coronavirus pandemic. Our Baltimore Kids in Need of Desks (BKIND) campaign supports low income families with distance learning during the pandemic.

At the start of the campaign, we received over 500 desks and distributed more than 200 of them over the last10 months.  With the news that Baltimore schools would be all-virtual next semester, demand for desks shot through the roof. We are now in the process of distributing 320 additional desks and have been working with our institutional partners to get more.  We are proud to be in a position to help Baltimore students create dedicated learning environments while they attend school virtually during the coronavirus pandemic.

In order to distribute so many desks, we will need to rent moving trucks and pay our warehouse workers. We estimate that the BKIND project will cost at least $4,000. That means that every donation of $15 from someone like you will help us deliver one desk to a local student whose family can’t afford to buy one!
