Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico. As we watch classmates from the class of 1978 University High School and other UHS classes work to reconstruct their homes and lives, we come together to help each other out. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise enough money to help with initial supplies so more classmates can have electricity and drinking water.
After engaging in emergency relief for some of our classmates, we are now engaged in satisfying electricity/light needs for our classmates. Rechargable solar lights, batteries and solar panels have proved to be popular for our classmates and continue to be. We anticipate that even when electricity returns it will remain intermittent, as testified by some classmates that have said that intermittent electricity was already common before Hurricane Maria.
