Who are we

Art Academy London (AAL) is a young and innovative Southwark-based art school and charity. Founded in 2000 by artists to meet the need for a skills-based art education in the UK, with the belief in the importance of art education for driving change for individuals, communities and society. We're passionate champions of art for all and offer student bursaries that we designate from our own funds — we put any surplus back into supporting students and taking our approach into the community with our outreach work.

Our Unique Model

We offer tuition in artistic skills, whilst challenging students to develop their own practice informed by contemporary practice and theory. We preserve skills, whilst believing that art never stands still. What also sets us apart is our intensive and hands-on teaching approach. We are proud to offer the highest number of contact hours of any higher education art school in the UK across our academic courses.

The Future

By expanding to Bankside, our goal is to increase student numbers by 50% by 2026. We will also offer our students even more higher education opportunities introducing a Masters in Fine Art, and offering visa sponsorship to international students keen to study at AAL.

Our Bankside Campus designed with architects Squire and Partners and CGL (Child Graddon Lewis), forms a part of JTRE's Triptych development. The landmark site encompasses 1,400 square feet across two levels and features:

  • 2 community gallery spaces for exhibitions & events
  • Specialist digital teaching studio
  • Specialist print teaching studio
  • Specialist ceramics teaching studio
