Banta Family Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hi my name is Debra and this fundraiser is for my sister, Lynn, and her family:
On Friday, Nov. 4th, I received a call from my mom saying that my sister was in need of emergency surgery and that I needed to get to Kansas quickly as we had no idea what the outcome was going to be. When I got there I was informed that she had an aortic dissection. The doctors explained that this is when a weak spot in the wall of the aorta (the hearts main artery) begins to bulge and therefore causes and aneurysm which highly increases the risk of a rupture, the result being immediately bleeding out internally. The treatment being surgically repairing the tear with a graft. Thankfully she had gotten to the hospital before it ruptured, but they quickly put her under anesthesia to get her stable. The surgeon in Kansas was not comfortable performing the surgery as it is highly technical and rare and they did not have the means to give her the best chance possible. They then flew her to the very well renowned Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. The surgery was a success thanks to this great staff and amazing team!
Although she came through the surgery alive, and her heart is healing well, there have been serious post operation complications with her lungs. And Lynn has been in critical condition and sedated in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit ever sense. She has an infection in her lungs that is preventing her from breathing on her own, so she is relying on a ventilator for life right now. It has been touch and go, but we are so thankful and happy to have small victories every day and as long she can stay on that trend we hope to be able to wake her up and get her home.
Lynn is the main financial provider for her family, so you can imagine what kind of a toll this has taken and is going to continue to take. Even when we can get her to the point of consciousness she is going to have a very long road of rehab and recovery. She supports a 5 person household. Including her husband Scott, who had started a small plumbing business but has come down with neuropathy in his legs and cannot walk or work, and our aging father who has memory loss and numerous health issues.
100% of the money that is raised will go to paying for the enormous medical bills that are building up and to help supplement the income that the family has lost to ensure that they do not lose their home.
Our mother and I have been with Lynn every day during this hellish time, and are unbelievably grateful that she is still with us and fighting! But the reason I am here writing this is to ask for your help since Lynn cannot. I know with the holidays upon us money can be tight but if you are reading this, PLEASE lend us your support. I know Gofundme’s are intended to raise money (which will be a huge help!) but beyond that I know Lynn would cherish your prayers/thoughts/positive energy. Or if you know of any resources, grants, charitable organizations, etc that would be able to assist in this type of situation. And lastly, please share this, in hopes of the possibility of someone you know being able to help us.
She is such a light in this world and I’m just trying my best to not let this darkness overshadow it.
