Barb Fisher's Medical Bills

In August of 2021, my mom, Barb Fisher, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Not long after her diagnosis, she underwent two lumpectomies but there was still cancer present after those procedures. She ended up having a mastectomy in November which, thankfully, removed the remaining cancer that was in her body. My family and I are beyond grateful for the care that she received and know that she is so lucky to be cancer free today. However, she is still struggling financially to pay for the cost of her medical procedures which totals $30,000 due to an insurance issue. My mom was on my stepfather’s insurance plan for over 15 years. After he retired from his previous job last year, they were informed he could still keep that insurance and that my mom would be covered as well. Unfortunately, when the medical bills started coming for my mom’s procedures they noticed that her coverage was for only 20%, despite what they were informed. My mom and stepfather have been working tirelessly since last year to try and resolve this situation with the insurance company, the school district, and the hospital but have gotten nowhere. Both my mom and stepfather work in the school system and it is not easy for them to come up with the money to pay this bill. I am starting this GoFundMe to help take off the burden of paying these large medical bills. I know that my mom would be forever grateful for any assistance she receives. Any money raised that exceeds our goal amount will be donated to breast cancer research.
