Barbara's Multiple Myeloma
Donation protected
My soulmate Barbara Hughes was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in April of 2023.
Over the last year treatment has changed, added medicine, taken away and tried new things to get her into remission. We have been going to treatment every other week in Lubbock which is 2 and 1/2 drive one way. She receives chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other medication to help get into remission.
We just need a little help to get traveling expenses, medical supplies medications, hospital stays, being off work and other unexpected expenses involved in the process
If you are curious about the cancer type, I will include an article I found online to explain it to you. Multiple Myeloma Explained By MD Anderson
So an update on Barbara’s back. Friday March 15, 2024 we drove to Bovina it’s near where we used to live in Farwell for the chiropractor since Monday ( March 11)’s visit was such a success. However Friday’s appointment was not. The chiropractor had her on the table, did the massager and adjusted her pelvis and then was going to continue upward but her back was hurting too bad. The chiropractor tried lifting the table back up and getting her off the table but she was not able to stand up due to the pain. We called the ambulance she was transported to the Friona. There they did a CT scan and showed a compression fracture of her L2. They could not determine if it was from the cancer or not. I pushed for them to transfer her to Lubbock. We got transferred to Conveant . They did a chest x ray and an MRI since then. Her cancer doctor dropped by and mentioned a possible procedure that they could look into doing for her that would put cement type substance in the L2 area to strengthen. However the neurologist came in because they thought it could be nerve related. He told her that it was the cancer that caused the break and that she has tumors all up and down her spine. That he couldn’t do surgery even if he tried the screws and pins wouldn’t stay. He said that they need to get with the oncologist and possibly a radiologist and look at doing radiation to target the tumors. Orotho fit her for a brace that will help stabilize her back. That is being ordered and will be here tomorrow ( March 17th). Right now we are waiting for a further plan from the doctors and will keep you all updated.
