Barlow Jackson family recovery from Covid19

Please consider financially assisting the Barlow/Jackson family, struck with severe cases of Covid-19 as an entire family.

Those of you familiar with this family, realize the loving and sacrificial nature of each member. I had the pleasure of living next door to them for a few years and consider it my privilege to assist them in their very significant hour of need.

An explanation of their current situation was shared with me. It is lengthy---but again---a complicated situation:

Marisol Jackson is a single mom with 3 disabled, dependent daughters that have rare auto immune disorders requiring medical treatment.

Her entire household came down with COVID, in addition to the kids’ Grandma who they provide care for, as well.

During Thanksgiving week, Grandma was admitted into the hospital for 4 days, then on Thanksgiving day, 2 daughters also were admitted  into the hospital for acute pneumonia and COVID symptoms.

Linell spent 5 days in and was released with oxygen, and requires 24 hr care. She already has no immune system and has for the last 3 years received infusions of plasma, bimonthly, on top of her Autism and an additional biopsy need that will have to be dealt with in new year.
But Andrea, whose rare acute blood disorder of ITP (she has struggled with this for 11 years-- it has no cure and her suffering has been significant this past year as her body has not responded to any more treatment options) entered her emergency protocol for her blood disorder with fatal level platelets on Friday, Nov. 20th. Covid complicated this. But because her health was already at a dire level, the COVID severely damaged her lungs. After 9 days in the hospital suffering from adverse reactions to the steroids and medicines to save her, she was released home on oxygen.

The damage is unknown as the ITP complicates the issue. Her home care requires 2 full time caregivers--Marisol, and another caregiver working 24/7 with 1 emergency caregiver. Nobody is being paid yet due to politics of Medicaid and the numerous emergent others applying for services.

Allison, the 3rd daughter, requires caregiver assistance prior to Covid since a tragic car accident in 2018 where as a passenger she sustained a mild traumatic brain injury that augmented her autistic challenges. Her recovery from that has been halted as they had exhausted funds for her recovery while still waiting for legal settlement. She, with the same compromised autoimmune disorder as Linell, was able to fight COVID without hospitalization with prolonged symptoms.

The lifesaving measures have exhausted the family financially, emotionally and physically as Marisol and the sister that did not enter the hospital are also recovering from COVID.

Marisol's parents who live locally are unable to assist or even visit due to their own quarantine for their fragile health and upcoming surgery in a few weeks and will be doing their own long recovery. Ron Jackson, her father (GPA for kids) had been their biggest supporter and help as well as staffed caregiver for Allison until Covid compromised the family. They have been unable to see him as their hearts grieve alone needing their ever powerful Daddy and Gpa hugs during this time.

Marisol is the Executive Director and Founder of New Hope Youth Ranch. Due to COVID, all staff this year are volunteers to meet the needs of others in crisis…even in the midst of her own family crisis. Marisol to date has never received wages from any of the 3 nonprofits she has founded and served the communities she was a part of in the midst of raising her 5 children alone while managing the 3 with complicated and rare medical disabilities.

Between Marisol, the caregiver, and Ashley, the eldest daughter that lives outside the home- they are managing the 24 hr care of the 3 remaining disabled daughters and the grandma.
Ashley spent 10 days in quarantine with the family as they struggled with COVID, unpaid from her work at a local store, to care alone for the family between 2 households, as the healthy adult.

The road to Andrea’s recovery is long and uncertain.

This is a family that, in spite of medical challenges, has managed to serve their communities and help others as effectively as they were able. If you have been touched by their lives, please don’t hesitate to share this post so they can now receive support in return in this lifesaving time.

Please also prayerfully consider financially assisting this wonderful family. We covet your prayers as the immediate and extended future are very uncertain. May God keep them close in His care.
