Barn Cat Freedom Project 2021-2022
Hello Friends! I haven't posted in ages, more than a year for sure. I have been out at the barns all through COVID, all through the winter, this mission never stops. In fact, throughout COVID I was super busy with barn cats. Chicago Animal Control has evolved their intake and in-the-field practices for feral cats so less of them are being impounded, which is fantastic, but there are still so many cats that just cannot return to their colonies. For instance, over the winter I finally finished a 48-cat outdoor hoarding project, they ALL had to be removed! The feeder was a 93 year-old lady in Dolton who had dementia and eventually passed away this year, and the house was sold. I relocated ALL the cats on my own dime. I had been working on that house for 2 years, it was all-consuming.
I think I've spent $200+ just in downloaded audiobooks to bide my time in the car for all the driving! Not to mention cat food, supplies, winter shelters, and all the things I need to make this happen for these cats.
I've attached some pictures here of one of my favorite of all time barn cats, BATTLECAT (so-named by his new guardian for the jacked up ears and scarring he had from years, unneutered, on the streets of Dolton. He is a god among cats AND people, and rules his barn in Manhattan, IL.
I appreciate your support of this never-ending mission. I am headed out to Pontiac and Beecher soon with cats who were impounded in various open-admission shelters. If I run into any baby goats, I'll post! They are my favorite!
