Barn Fire from Lightning Strike
Donation protected
Shawn & Andy Papczynski have been active members of Elkhart County 4H Club for as many years as I can remember. Shawn has spent her entire life giving children Horseback riding lessons and being very active in our community. Unfortunately, on Monday August 6th, 2018 at 1:40AM their beautiful barn was struck by lightning during the bad storm Middlebury was dealing with... Shawn & Andy had built this beautiful barn from the ground up years ago, They had horses and goats that they've had since they were born and cared for very deeply, just as they were their children. The Lightning strike was so severe, it caught the barn on fire. They noticed it right away ran to their barn as fast as they could and did everything imaginable and in their power to try and get all of the animals out to safety. Unfortunately, none of the animals made it out alive. The Goats were "Free-Range" and refused to leave the barn, The horses, no matter how hard they tried refused to leave their stalls..... Unfortunately, all horses and goats were perished in this barn fire. Devastated is ian understatement. Shawn & Andy need our help. They need our thoughts, prayers, help cleaning up the aftermath (if you're close to Middlebury, Indiana) and most of all MONETARY donations so that once they are ready, they can work to re-build their beautiful farm. Animals aren't replaceable, but the last thing they should be worrying about while they mourn such a horrible loss, is how they will afford to re-build this family barn that has been a huge part of our local community. Please, find it in your heart to donate or share if donations aren't possible for you right now. We appreciate it.
