Barossa Cookery Book Project

We are Sheralee and Marieka - Those Barossa Girls. For four years we have been researching the iconic Barossa Cookery Book and uncovering the stories of the women who created it. First published during WW1 the story of the cookbook is remarkable. Filled with classic recipes, it is one of Australia's oldest community cookbooks. Our project has updated 85 recipes to metric and tells the story of the woman who contributed the recipe. Our project captures Barossa history, but also our regional food culture. Our companion book is currently being edited. It's almost ready to go to the designer and will be released in November 2024. For full project details visit : https://www.thosebarossagirls.com.au/barossa-cookery-book-project/

This is a community project. The women who created the cookbook in 1917 did so to raise funds for the Tanunda Soldiers Memorial Hall. For more than 100 years the cookbook has been the principal fundraiser for the building that honours the memory of WW1 and WW2 soldiers who served and died. Proceeds from our companion book will go to our community through the building. We need to raise funds to cover the costs of producing the book: Editing, photography, design and printing.

Our companion book is being professionally produced. It is being fully produced and printed in Australia.
