BARRATT FAMILY FUNDRAISER

Thank you so much for your kindness - we have felt so supported over these past few weeks.

We have done our best to notify everyone, but for those who have not yet received the news - our dearly beloved Janet Grace Barratt passed away peacefully in sleep on the morning of January 8th 2019.
There will be memorial events in Nottinghamshire UK in February and in Asheville NC in April.
Please contact us for information.

We are keeping the fundraiser open to receive monetary contributions during this time.

This photograph was taken in Pakistan when Janet was in her early thirties. It demonstrates her grace, poise and elegance.

BARRATT FAMILY FUNDRAISER

Those of you who know my parents will have experienced their warmth and generosity, their compassion and willingness to spend the time to sit with you and talk and pray when you need an ear to listen and shoulder to lean on.

You may have been blessed by their practical support and advice or been entertained by their creative talents and hospitality.

They have many friends and associates in spiritual, creative and academic circles from many places around the world who hold them in high regard because of their integrity and love them for the dear, interesting, slightly eccentric, accomplished individuals they are.

As some of you are aware, Mum is now in very bad health and Dad is devoting himself to caring for her.
They are at their home in Nottinghamshire UK and are no longer able to travel to the family home in North Carolina.

After five months of being in and out of hospital and nursing home, Mum is finally at home and beginning a routine with care-givers coming in briefly three times a day.

Physically she is extremely weak and needs constant assistance – she is unable to do anything autonomously and requires feeding, cleaning and changing.

Her eyesight has diminished to only seeing light and color.

She has been equipped with a hospital standard bed, which is located in the living room for easy access (fortunately a local church has taken the piano on permanent loan). Mentally she goes between lucidity and dementia and can become very distressed at times – but equally peaceful at other times.

She still very much enjoys what the senses of taste and smell have to offer and loves good food and nice smells. When she is lucid, she loves music and quiz shows on the TV – however, when in a distressed mental state she does not want any sound at all.

She is very aware of people around her and still has her sociable personality.

Dad remains remarkably calm, patient and steady throughout. He is in good health and mobility and also in good spirits. It is his diligent and positive persistence in creating and maintaining a daily routine that keeps everything going.

There is a great sense of love and compassion between them.

I am currently here with them. I left my return flight to the states open so that I can play it by ear as to how long to stay. I plan to be here for a good couple of months or so while they transition into this life-style.

I am starting this fundraiser because I want to give them as much support as possible during this difficult time.

At the moment neither Dad nor myself are working. Care-giving is really Dad’s unpaid, full time job now!

Fortunately I have some reliable, but temporary tenants in the North Carolina house, however there is a lot of financial up-keep for the house and currently no income to cover it.

The fundraiser goal is $6,000. This amount would cover six months of expenses during this transitional time.

The gofundme fundraising website does not require meeting the goal amount in order to receive funds, so any donation, however large or small, will contribute to making a big difference.

And if you are unable to contribute financially, your warm wishes and prayers are very much appreciated too!

We are happy to be together over this holiday time and send you all our love.

Merry Christmas and blessings for the New Year!

Faithfully,

Claire Elizabeth Barratt
