The above photo was taken minutes after Barry walked in the house. His cat Jerry and he were reunited. The look on Jerry’s face says everything we have thought: joy.
On Nov. 20th I woke as normal and tried to wake my husband Barry. He was facing away from me and I went around to his side, his CPAP mask filled with blood.
I took it off and tried to get a fix on his eyes but couldn’t see his pupils. Our son called 911 and they raced him to Bedford Vanderbilt.
we got in to see him eventually and he was intubated and under sedation. He was raced to CCU where he was on life support for 10 days. They made the decision to see if he’d breath on his own the evening of the 29th.
He did. They started slowly taking him off sedation and the afternoon of the 30th he started to speak. It was very faint but it was him.
Dec. 6th he was released. We found out that he had respiratory failure, congestive heart failure, septic shock and pneumonia.
They actually didn’t give him a large percentage to live.
We had no signs prior to this at all.
He is very weak, tires quickly.
He will have to have a heart Cath to see what is happening with his heart, and many other tests who knows what.
As of this moment we are living on my (Lesa’s) disability.
This has been a traumatizing time for our Asperger’s son, he comes in at night over and over to see if dad is still breathing.
Folks have wanted to know what’s going on & what had happened.
So here it is. Hope it never happens again.
