Weekender Backpack (Food for Kids)

Anywhere from 26% to 39% of the children in our school district rely on free or reduced priced meals at their school.  For some of these kids, this is the most nutritional meal they receive all day.  Some of these kids have little or no food to eat on the weekends.  The Weekender Backpack program is a food program that works with the local school district and the Greater Berks County Food Bank to help feed children from financially struggling homes.  We are looking to raise money in order to fund the Weekender Backpack program for our local school district for all 5 eligible elementary schools for the 2014-2015 school year.  Currently this program is unfunded by the Greater Berks Food Bank due to costs and we have 655 children in our area that currently do not have enough food to eat on the weekends.  If we can raise enough money by the end of the summer we can help feed all 655 children every weekend for the entire school year.
